What is TWIN Control - What does it do? TWIN Control is a standalone software program for controlling the position of application windows, system message and dialog boxes on a multi screen desktop. One of it's primary functions is to automatically force system dialogs and messages onto the centre of one of the screens, rather than across the gaps between them. Under Windows® NT 4 this also extends to the log-on prompt which will automatically appear on the main master screen.
System Messages and Dialog Boxes. Normally Windows® displays system messages and dialogs in the centre of the desktop by default. In a two screen system, as shown in the image below, this means that the message would be displayed across the gap in the monitors, making it hard to read:
TWIN Control monitors and intercepts dialog boxes / messages and forces them onto one screen or the other. If you are working in an application, then the dialogs will appear in the centre of the application. System messages, which are not application dependent, will be forced onto the screen where the mouse is currently positioned.
For example if you are working on the left-hand screen, then the dialog will appear in the centre of the left screen - as shown in the image below:
Application Window Control The other key functionality is to help you position your application windows around the multiple screen desktop. Using TWIN Control you can configure favourite applications to open on a particular screen, maximise across one, two or more or you can make the selection at application start-up.
Application Start up & Maximisation Settings Typically, Windows® applications take up the entire Windows® desktop on start up maximised. With TWIN Control you can specify just one screen for each application - either by setting up defaults for your preferred application, or by deciding at start up each time. Now you don't have to have applications covering those which are already open, or spend time trying to resize the window to the appropriate screen - it happens automatically.
The image below shows how TWIN Control intercepts and controls the application:
Similarly, TWIN Control allows you to specify whether your applications maximise to one screen or both. Click the left screen to display the application on the left screen and click the right button to display it on the right screen.
Pressing the Default button allows the application to choose which screen to use, and pressing the Intercepts button displays a special dialog for setting up defaults for that application in the future.
If you have defaults set up for your preferred applications, then this will be happen seamlessly - the application will start/maximise to the appropriate screen without any user intervention or anything appearing on screen.
Application and Screen Locking Where certain applications are for feedback only and require no user intervention (e.g. live video or RGB overlay) applications can be "locked" to prevent them being moved on the desktop.
Other Features & Benefits TWIN Control is aware of and compatible with many City specific applications, making it an ideal choice for financial institutions. Setting defaults for application start up and maximisation will save time, allow you to set up the desktop to your preferred display and thus improve productivity.
